Yesterday my wife and I went to a rally
that protested the fact a war in a foreign
land was still going on though our CINC
did say some time ago on an aircraft
carrier that it was over. Well, over 2000
lives later, its the same story on the news
each night-more deaths, more problems
with Iraqui insurgents, more unaccountable
expenses with huge multilateral corps,
more protests of a useless conflict and
a lowering of approval rating of a president
who just willnot conceive of a nation
pulling out of another national conflict
that cannot be won. Only the Iraquis can
determine their future. Our continued
presence only makes the final outcome
further off. At the rally many figures in
Eugene political life spoke. Both our state
representive as well as our Congressman
had good, strong words for the crowd.
We decided to march from the Fairgrounds
with about 300 others. People also came
from the University of Oregon campus
and Alton Baker Park. Estimates are as
high as 2000, though I would put it more
at 1000-1200. Afterwards norma and I
attended a meeting for the Coordinators
of the Oregon Country Fair at a beautiful
home in the hill country of Lane County.
